What is healthcare interoperability?

Interoperability is a hospital software's ability to exchange and use medical data with other system, without data loss, without re-entry, without human intervention.

In France, it is governed by the ANS via the CI-SIS framework and made mandatory by the Ségur du Numérique en Santé program. In practice, an interoperable EHR allows a physician to access in real time a patient's medical history from another department, their lab results, and active prescriptions without switching screens
